How much is the cost of a therapist in Mississauga?

The average cost of a therapist in Mississauga is about $150 per hourly session. However, this number can change drastically depending on the therapist's qualifications, years of experience, professional regulatory affiliations, and modalities. For example, if the therapist is a practicum student, the cost may vary from $0 to $150 per session. Fully licensed professionals who can practice psychotherapy, such as MSW RSW Social Workers or Registered Psychotherapists, generally charge $150-$250 per couples therapy session. Clinical Psychologists may charge $250-$350+ per session. In addition, some professionals, such as RP and RP(Q), have to charge HST, while other providers, such as Social Workers, can provide services tax-free. For additional mental health care professionals, such as Psychiatrists, you may not have to pay anything out of pocket if you have a health card since their services are covered under OHIP. Overall, the cost of a therapist can vary based on many factors. It is usually best to inquire about the service fees before booking an appointment with a professional.

Does couples therapy work?

If couples therapy is provided by an experienced, fully licensed, and registered psychotherapist using proven evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, then the chances of couples therapy working are pretty achievable. However, it is not as simple as that. Success in therapy involves a lot of factors, such as the active involvement of the clients, the therapist, a sound support system, execution of any "homework" assigned by the therapist, showing up to appointments, following the treatment plans, and many more. Sometimes, individuals may need assistance that is beyond the scope of therapy. Every individual is unique and every individual requires different levels of support and help. Book a free consultation today with one of our therapists, and they answer any specific questions you may have about your situation!

How long does couples therapy take to work?

Generally, a free consultation is booked first to see if the therapist matches your needs. After the consultation, you will start coming to your scheduled appointments, where therapy will begin. Your therapist will use appropriate evidence-based psychotherapy modalities to help you achieve your goals, and a treatment plan may be mutually agreed upon. Some couples may see improvements and changes within the first few sessions, while for others dealing with more complex challenges it can take months. The duration of therapy depends on your improvement after each session and the complexity of your situation.
